The “Small but Powerful” Contest is a new funding challenge designed to provide a seed support for innovative ideas that have or will have a positive impact on community or economic development in Prince George’s County. Sponsored by the Prince George’s County Social Innovation Fund, this initiative is designed to nurture small but powerful ideas into potential game changers by awarding start-up funding, mentoring support, and recognition from launch to landing.

The Prince George’s County Social Innovation Fund (PGCSIF) is pleased to recognize four organizations who were short-listed for the Small but Powerful Funding Competition.

One by 1, Inc. featuring Kool Kids (by Social Entrepreneur – Eddie Ellis)

The Pink Backpack Project (by Social Entrepreneur – Stephanie Mans)

Beyond the Surface, Inc. (by Social Entrepreneur – LaQuinta Harkless)

Put it in Perspective (by Social Entrepreneur – Felicia L. Reed)

In an interesting turn of events, the four organizations agreed that rather than award a single $1,000 prize for 1 big idea; they would prefer to use the funding for a ‘teach-in’ on proposal development and fundraising that all four organizations and the broader ‘Small but Powerful’ community could benefit from.

In early 2013, PGCSIF will follow those exact instructions in order to strengthen local capacity, increase the flow of philanthropic capital to Prince George’s County, and strengthen initiatives that have the potential to improve quality of life for youth in the region.

If your organization is interested in participating in the ‘teach-in’ or in providing resources to support the broader effort, kindly contact us at smallbutpowerful@innovateprincegeorges.org. Congratulations to Eddie, Stephanie, LaQuinta, and Felicia for your commitment to community and collective action!
